POLICY STATEMENT:
The Board believes that its ability to discharge its obligations is enhanced when leadership and guidance are forthcoming from within its membership. The Board entrusts to its Chair primary responsibility for providing such leadership and guidance.
GUIDELINES AND PROCEDURES:
1. The Board delegates to
the Chair the following powers and duties:
a. To preside over all
Board meetings and to ensure that such meetings are conducted in accordance
with the School Act, and with the by-laws, policies, and procedures of
the Board.
b. To convey to the
Superintendent such concerns as are related to the chair by trustees, parents,
students, or employees which may affect the administration of the school
system.
c. To convey to the Board
and the Superintendent such concerns as are related to the chair which may
affect the policies of the Board.
d. To provide counsel, when
requested, to the Superintendent when a course of action may be necessary, the
substance of which is not within the parameters of existing Board policy.
e. To act as Board
spokesperson on matters of Board policy.
f. To act as ex-officio
member, with voting privileges, of all committees appointed by the Board.
g. To present on behalf of
the Board such awards as the Board may authorize.
h. To act as a signing
officer of the Board.
2. It is the responsibility
of the vice-chair to assume the powers and duties of the Chair in the Chair's
absence.
3. The trustee elected to
serve as Chair shall serve at the pleasure of the Board.
