AND REVIEW
POLICY STATEMENT:
The
Board believes written policies are the best vehicle to provide guidance to its
employees, students, and community.
GUIDELINES AND PROCEDURES:
1. Requests
for new policy or amendments to existing policy should be directed to
the Superintendent. It shall be the
responsibility of the Superintendent to refer the matter to the Policy
Committee. The Committee’s
recommendation shall be placed on
the agenda of a regular Board meeting.
2. Proposed
policy and significant amendments will be ratified in accordance with the
following schedule:
First reading: Proposal is presented
for action. Clarification and directions
for additional information are given.
The proposal may be circulated for reactions and recommendations.
Second reading: Proposal, with appropriate
changes, is presented as an action item.
Merits of the proposal are discussed.
Amendments may be made. The proposal
may be circulated for reactions and
recommendations.
Third reading: Merits of the proposal,
including amendments, are debated. Proposal and any amendments are approved or
rejected. If the proposed policy is
rejected, the Board may direct further development, or may choose to eliminate
the proposed policy.
3. At any one
meeting, after the second reading, with unanimous consent of all trustees
present, the third reading may occur.
4. On adoption
of the policy it shall be the responsibility of the Superintendent to distribute copies of the
policy to all Policy Manual holders.
5. When deemed appropriate, on
adoption of policy, it shall be the responsibility of the Chair to prepare a
suitable news release.
6. The
Superintendent will report to the Board on the first, and thereafter, every
third anniversary of policy adoption, with an assessment of the impact of the
policy and such recommendations for revision as are appropriate. In addition, the Superintendent may initiate
policy review as deemed necessary.
