POLICY STATEMENT:     

 

The Board believes that the use of video cameras in school buses will assist in protecting the safety of passengers, and will aid in the detection of inappropriate behaviour.

 

 

GUIDELINES AND PROCEDURES:

 

1.         Only Division-owned video cameras shall be used in buses in service within the Division.  Video storage media (tapes,discs, harddrives, etc.) are the property of the Division.  Cameras may be installed at the request of the bus driver or Superintendent.

 

2.         Each school bus fitted to carry a video camera will display the following notice:

 

This bus is equipped with video monitoring equipment.

 

3.         The principal will view the video storage media when a problem has occurred on a bus run, or when inappropriate behaviour is suspected.

 

4.         Parents may be asked to view the video in the presence of the principal.

 

5.         Video storage media will be erased unless the principal requires the video for discipline procedures.  After 3 months, the video storage media will be erased or destroyed, unless required for an appeal or legal action.
