POLICY STATEMENT:
The Board believes that staff
participation in community
services provides a significant benefit for the school community
GUIDELINES AND PROCEDURES:
1. The Board may provide paid leave for elected service, appointed service, or emergency service to a recognized community or municipal agency.
2. All requests for leave shall be made to the Superintendent at least one week prior to its occurrence.
3. a. Employees approved for leave for
community service without remuneration
will not be required to reimburse the Board for time away from their regular
duties.
b. Teachers approved for
leave for community service that is remunerated will reimburse the Board the
equivalent cost of a substitute or the per diem paid by the community
agency, whichever is less.
c. Other employees approved
for leave for community service that is remunerated will reimburse the Board,
either the cost of the replacement, if any, or the per diem paid
by the community agency, whichever is less.
4. Leave that is in excess of three consecutive working days must receive prior approval of the Board.
5. Leaves of absence for community service which exceed seven days per school year must receive prior approval of the Board.
6. Requests for leave to serve at the provincial or federal level must receive prior approval of the Board.
