A.  Dynamic Geometry Software

 

1.       Create a worksheet with perpendicular line segments

 

2.       Add Script tools to Geometer’s Sketchpad

Display\preferences… \More…\Set

Double click a measurement with the text tool to change its view

4.       SPECIAL CHARACTERS

         Subtraction: use En Dash

Alt - 0150 or (In Word: ctrl-Num -)

 

Character Codes: for math symbols.

Alt - 0176 is character °

 

.. On Number pad. With Num Lock on, hold the Alt button while typing the digits.

5.       To create a math symbol:  Equation Editors

create a graphic of an equation which can be edited.

·         Equation Magic

·         Microsoft Equation

·         Mathtype

 

6.       Use Hidden text for test keys

Don’t forget to include “Key” at top of page.

Select Font and choose Hidden.

Check “print hidden” when printing first copy.

 

 

 

7.       Pasting from a Web page.

Most of the time text pasted from a web page will create tables in Word

Use

 Table to Text…

 Shift del (deletes a table)

 Embed multiple tables into a table

 

8.       Pasting from a PDF file.

Three tools are available:

·   Select paragraph Text

·   Select column Text alt-drag Text in Acrobat Reader v6

·   Select graphic

After selecting a graphic, zoom in 200% to copy at a higher resolution.

Note: web plugin may have some of these features hidden… use a saved file.

 

9.       Pasting from Excel

Shift-Edit adds “Copy Picture…”

 includes lines or Row and column headings

 

10.    To draw Angles (Standard Position)

    

 

Use MS Draw…

 Auto Shape Arc…

Use multiple semicircles for  > 360°

 

11.    Insert Objects:

An Excel spreadsheet can be useful within a Word document.

 Create one document with multiple environments.

right click to open in a new window.

 

C.  Spreadsheets

 

12.    Paste to Excel from Word. Either from a table or inserted object from Word.

 

13.    Auto Format in Excel Auto Format in Excel

1 324 000 is treated as text.

Fix: Data menu: “Text to Column…” can be used to change back to numbers. Use “Delimited”, blank for “Thousands separator”.

5% is formatted as a percent.  So formulas referencing this cell do not need /100.

Save with .doc or .xls at end of file name. (Word and Excel)

Graphics in Word transfer well.

How to send it to a technician.

Ctrl-c will copy most messages.

Alt-PrtSc will capture any window as a graphic.

Many types:

LXR: all equations are graphics

Acces: Premade questions from Addison Wesley Textbooks. Can create questions. Equations are TeX format. Some external graphics.

Vector vs Raster

 Save Digital camera images as jpg, then insert into Document. This keeps file size small. Copy paste creates large files.

G.  Saving Files

 

22.    Saving Files to CDR’s

Copying files from a CDR leaves files as “Read Only”

 

Copy files in a folder on C: drive

Right click folder: change folder attributes to Read Only.

Right click folder again and uncheck “Read Only”, then select “Apply changes to this folder, subfolder and files”
