Mission Statement

The staff of Grassland School will teach and model leadership, social and life skills.

We will work together with students, parents and members of the community to achieve the following goals for our students:

  • the ability and desire to engage in critical thought using the knowledge, skills and attitudes learned in school
  • the ability and desire to recognize those situations in which independence of thought and responsible selection is appropriate
  • the ability and desire to live as responsible citizens of Canada
  • the ability and desire to pursue life-long learning

School Vision

Grassland School provides the best possible educational opportunities for all students by:

  • Preparing students for a rapidly changing world

  • Encouraging all students to achieve their maximum potential

  • Providing quality programs delivered by highly trained, competent and dedicated professionals

  • Fostering safe and caring learning environments, characterized by an atmosphere of mutual trust and respect

  • Promoting high behavioral and academic standards

  • Using technology to enhance learning

  • Encouraging meaningful involvement of parents

  • Fully realizing our shared beliefs

Shared Beliefs

All members of the staff of Grassland School share the following beliefs:

  • All individuals are equal in terms of dignity and value.

  • Individuals are treated according to their unique needs.

  • The primary educator of the child is the parent; therefore parents need to be informed and actively involved in their children’s education.  Open and frequent communication between parents and school is a high priority.

  • Education for social responsibility and good citizenship starts and continues in the home and must be supported by the school.

  • Education is a joint responsibility of the student, his or her family, the school, and the community.

  • The student develops and grows as a whole: physically, emotionally, socially, intellectually and spiritually.

  • We all learn best in a safe, secure and stimulating environment.

  • Honest and open communication is essential.

  • Education provides opportunities for students to question, think and explore, and to set and achieve their goals.

  • Learning is a life-long process.

  • Being current with the many changes occurring in education is vital to meeting the needs of our students.  Professional development is a priority and an expectation.

  • The celebration of achievement is essential.

  • All members of the school community are responsible for their actions and, therefore, are accountable for the consequences of their actions.

  • The key to much of our success lies in strong, decisive and effective leadership and teamwork
