School Activities

Swimming

Grade 1-6 take Red Cross swimming lessons at Harbor Pool in Fort Saskatchewan.  The lessons are sponsored by Radway's Parent Council in conjunction with Radway School. 


Badminton

Badminton is the sport for the spring.  All students play badminton in Phys. Ed, bit the  Grade 5-8 students have the opportunity to  participate in various tournaments including the  Aspen View Regionals.

Volleyball

Volleyball is a BIG hit with our Grade 6-8 students with Mr. Shelast and Mrs. Evans coaching the teams.

Our athletes participate in tournaments within the area and also host mini tournaments.    The highlight of the volleyball year was the Aspen View Regional Tournament  in which  Mrs. Evans and the girls team achieved the  Gold placement

Congratulations to both teams for their excellence, on and off of the court.


 

 

Ski Trips

Grades K-8 usually go on two  ski trips to the  Long Lake Ski hill.  Additionally, Radway School has a class set  of Cross Country skis which is enjoyed by all grades.

Awards Ceremonies

Awards ceremonies are held after each reporting period; November and March.   A year-end wind up Award Ceremony is also held in conjunction with the Grade 8 commencement ceremony  at the end of June.

It is a great fun day as our Parent Council hosts a barbeque lunch enabling students, staff and families to come together for a good visit.

Harvest Days

 

Each year, just before Thanksgiving,  Radway School celebrates Harvest Days.

 

Student  teams  led by a Grade 8 student  compete in a variety of activities.

The afternoon begins with the Turkey Trot with real (frozen)  turkeys  awarded to random participants in each grade.

 

It is a tradition where many Radway School families join the students in the celebration.


Cross Country Run

The cross country run organized by Landing Trail School in    Athabasca.  All students who participate have a wonderful time.

The Students in Grades K-2 put on a strawberry tea for their Mothers, Grandmothers, aunts and friends.  The students also put on a short performance to the delight of the guests.

 

Science Olympics

Grades 1-8 participate individually and in teams on a number of science
related projects during Science and Technology Week held in October.

Christmas Crafts and Baking

Christmas is a busy time at Radway School as all students from K-8 take part in making a variety of crafts and baking items to enjoy and to take home to their families.

                                            

Christmas Concert


The Christmas Concert is certainly a highlight with our school family and community.     It is very well attended with approximately 350 guests coming from near and far to enjoy the concert, the traditional Turkey and Ham Christmas Dinner prepared by  Mrs. Kuzik, the junior foods class students and their parents and take part in the silent auction.   

 

Grade 7/ 8  Year End Outdoor Ed.Trip

The grade 7 and 8's  and their teachers go on a  three day Outdoor Education trip at the end of the year giving them the opportunity to put into practice all the outdoor ed. skills  learned through  the year. 

The location alternates yearly between Camp Warwa and Birch Bay.

Students have great times  engaging in  personal and team challenges and bring home many happy memories.
