ANTI-BULLYING POLICY

The staff and students of Rochester School declare that bullying will not be tolerated and that all incidents will be taken very seriously. Investigations into bullying incidents will be thorough and involve both the bully and the bullied. We will ensure an atmosphere where students feel safe reporting incidents of bullying.

Bullying can be pushing, shoving, hitting and spitting, as well as name calling, picking on, making fun of, laughing at, intimidating and excluding someone. Bullying causes pain and stress to victims and is never justified or excusable as “kids being kids,” “just teasing” or any other rationalization. The victim is never responsible for being a target of bullying.

  1. All bullying problems will be taken seriously.
  2. All incidents will be investigated thoroughly.
  3. All bullies and victims will be interviewed separately.
  4. Witness information will be obtained.
  5. A written record of the incident, investigation and outcomes will be kept.
  6. Action will be taken to prevent further incidents. Such action may include:
    1. Imposition of sanctions (verbal warnings, removal from a classroom or school grounds, detention or expulsion for repeat offenders).
    2. Obtaining an apology
    3. Informing parents of both the bully and bullied
    4. Provide mentor support for both victim and bully
