Homegrown in Aspen View: Amber McConaghy

Amber McConaghyMy name is Amber McConaghy and I am a graduate of Aspen View School Division. I was born and raised in Athabasca and I have attended Aspen View School Division starting in Kindergarten and graduated from Edwin Parr Composite in 2000. I have very fond school memories of amazing teachers growing up, including Mrs. Blosser, Mrs. Bradfield, Mr. Traynor and Ms. Burns. I have made life-long friends throughout my school years that I still have contact with.

We moved to Smith in 2003 and live on an acreage just outside of town. Our son Blake was born in 2007, our daughter Brysa was born in 2009 and our last daughter Brielle was born in 2014. We have lots of animals and are often referred to as the “Funny Farm”! We are members of our local 4-H club and attend many great community events hosted by the Smith School, local groups and amazing community members. We are very lucky to call Smith home!

I was a stay-at-home mom until 2012 and then I started teaching at Smith Preschool. I loved working with all the children, parents and community members during my time there. It was a very rewarding and amazing opportunity that I had the pleasure of doing for nine years.

I just recently started my new position in March of 2021 as the Administrative Assistant at Smith School. Even though I have only been here a short time, I feel very fortunate and lucky to be a part of Smith School and the Aspen View School Division, working alongside the staff and students.

Growing up and attending school in the Aspen View School Division has been a very positive experience. I am fortunate and grateful that my children are attending Smith School and Aspen View School Division, involved in our rural community and getting a great educational experience.
