
Aspen View Public Schools, with a division office located in the town of Athabasca, is a rural school division providing diverse and innovative programming to students in a number of communities. The division is unique in that it is surrounded by a multitude of lakes, golf courses and trails that appeal to an active, outdoor lifestyle while still being in close proximity to larger urban centers.
Aspen View Public Schools is recruiting a 1.0 FTE Speech Language Pathologist position commencing August 25, 2022 with an end date of June 30, 2023 with the strong possibility of extension into the 2023-2024 school year.
Under the direction of the Associate Superintendent, the duties of this position will include, but are not limited to:
- Provide universal, targeted and individualized supports and services (direct and in-direct) in all division schools; on-site and using remote technologies
- Provide speech, language and AAC recommendations for equipment and resources that would benefit students of Aspen View Public Schools
- Communicate and collaborate with other members of the student’s inclusive learning team (including parents), school inclusive learning teams and multi-disciplinary teams at each school and jurisdiction level to meet the needs of students
- Provide assessment/screening administration, guidance, scoring, reporting and interpretation (including the completion of summary, process and assessment reports) and appropriate, relevant and student focused implementation/intervention plan support and coaching to students, parents education staff and multi-disciplinary team members
- Provide on-going monitoring and documentation of student progress and the effectiveness of treatment
- Participate, contribute and support student Individual Program Plans (IPP), Positive Behavior Support Plans (PBSP), Medical Management Plans, etc., including development monitoring and program plan evaluation
- Collaborate with students, parents, school and school jurisdiction staff regarding transition planning for students
- Provide strategies, resources, materials and programming ideas for classroom activities that will foster inclusion, speech and language development and target IPP goals
- Conduct Pre-K PUF Family-Oriented Programming visits and presentations
- Facilitate professional development workshops for students, parents, education staff and multi-disciplinary team members
- To provide consultation as required for Alberta Aids to Daily Living (AADL), Access to Communication Technology (ACT) clinic, vision clinic, seating clinic, etc. requests
- In consultation with school and jurisdiction staff, make appropriate referrals to outside agencies relating to speech, language, communication and hearing
- Other duties as required
Qualifications:
- Speech-Language Pathologist with a Master’s Degree and to be registered in good standing with the Alberta College of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists (ACSLPA), as well as possess a current license to practice within the province of Alberta
- Eligibility for membership with Speech-Language and Audiology Canada (SAC)
- Related experience in classroom-based service delivery to children/students, experience with assistive technology devices and augmentative communication systems, oral/motor disorders, apraxia of speech and American Sign Language (ASL) are desirable
- Advanced communication and collaboration skills
- Strong interpersonal, organizational and time management skills
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Knowledge of and ability to develop/implement consistent and comprehensive documentation, policy/procedures and proficiency in the use and application of technology, such as Google Suite platforms
- Valid driver’s license.

This position will provide school and jurisdiction Speech-Language Pathology support and services to children/students within all Aspen View Public Schools.
The successful candidate will be required to provide a clear Criminal and Vulnerable Sector Check. A valid driver’s license is required as travel is required as part of this position.
