Aspen View Public Schools, with a division office located in the town of Athabasca, is a rural school division providing diverse and innovative programming to students in a number of communities. The division is unique in that it is surrounded by a multitude of lakes, golf courses and trails that appeal to an active, outdoor lifestyle while still being in close proximity to larger urban centers.

Aspen View Public Schools is seeking a full-time 12-month Mental Health Professional to work at Whispering Hills Primary School in Athabasca, Alberta, beginning on August 25, 2024.

Program Goals: The goal of the program is to provide intensive wraparound services to create an environment in which each student can succeed both academically and socially. The wraparound services are intended to be universal within an elementary school setting and provide individualized supports that are immediate, located within the school, and aimed at supporting the child from a holistic perspective.

Accountabilities for this role may include:

  • Providing assessment, consultation, and treatment services to students;
  • Determining special education eligibility, recommending programming strategies and/or placements;
  • Providing reports and documentation of psychological assessments for students;
  • Providing interpretation, consultation, and feedback regarding psychological opinions to parents and personnel;
  • Assisting personnel with strategies for students encountering learning, behavioural, emotional and social difficulties;
  • Liaising with external professionals/agencies toward integrated understanding and support of students;
  • Accountability for the development and provision of quality clinical services to students and families;
  • Working collaboratively with the Instructional Services multidisciplinary team.
  • Community engagement: be present to know families, build relationships, attend parent-teacher conferences
  • Working closely with admin team and counsellor to provide professional growth opportunities both formally and informally;
  • Monitoring program and maintain reporting documentation.

Qualifications:

  • The candidate should have a minimum of Master’s level training in the areas of Counselling, Psychology, Special Education or Social Work.
  • Training in Level C testing would be an asset.

Salary Range: $75,000 - $98,000 plus benefits

This program is supported through the Integrated School Support Program (ISSP), a joint initiative between the Calgary Police Youth Foundation, Calgary Police Service (CPS), Calgary Board of Education (CBE), Calgary Catholic School District (CCSD) and the City of Calgary. Aspen View Public Schools has been selected as a partner in the ISSP initiative.
