Aspen View Public Schools statement on criminal charges against employee

December 4, 2018

Today, Aspen View Public Schools Superintendent Neil O’Shea issued the following statement in regard to criminal charges laid by RCMP against an Aspen View employee:

“On behalf of Aspen View Public Schools, I acknowledge that criminal charges have been laid against one of our employees.

“RCMP previously advised Aspen View Public Schools of an investigation into allegations involving an Aspen View employee. We are committed to the safety and well-being of students and staff, and take any and all allegations very seriously. Aspen View took immediate steps to ensure the safety of students and staff, and to investigate the matter.

“Aspen View Public Schools has now been advised by RCMP that criminal charges have been laid against the employee. The employee is currently not working in schools and the matter is being handled administratively through the office of the Superintendent. As with all personnel matters, we will deal with this with the utmost discretion out of respect for the individuals involved and respect for due process.

“Aspen View has protocols in place to ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff. It is standard practice, following allegations of this nature, to conduct a thorough review of related policies and procedures, which Aspen View will undertake.

“I fully understand and acknowledge that this information may be unsettling to many students and caregivers. Please know that I am confident that we continue to provide safe learning environments for our students and staff.  While I am not able to comment in detail on a matter currently before the courts, if you have questions or concerns, please contact me at 780-675-7080 Ext. 11 or via email at
