Music

From Grade 1 through Senior High, the music curriculum encourages students to explore, create, and connect with music in progressively deeper ways. In the early grades, students experiment with rhythm, melody, and expression through singing, movement, and basic instruments, while learning to recognize musical patterns and sounds. As they move into upper elementary grades, they begin to work with harmony, chords, scales, and musical structure, and are introduced to a wider variety of instruments and styles. In junior high and senior high, music becomes an optional program, offering students opportunities to develop their skills as performers, listeners, composers, and informed consumers of music through instrumental, choral, or general music courses. Those who choose to participate engage with music across cultures and genres, gaining a deeper appreciation of its structure, purpose, and powerful role in individual lives and society as a whole.
