School bus online registration
for 2022-23 now open
All students requiring busing need to re-register
|
Aspen View Public Schools has opened online bus registration for the 2022-23 school year. All students requiring bus transportation must register (or re-register, if you rode in 2021-22). Please do not assume that the Transportation Department knows that you require transportation. Please register your student with the department yourself.
This section provides important information about registering your child to ride the school bus to any Aspen View school. If you have questions about the information here, please contact Charlie Welsh, Transportation Coordinator at 780-675-7080 Ext. 16.

Who should register?
All students requiring bus transportation for the 2022-2023 school year must register by submitting a completed Student Transportation Registration Form. Even if your child rode the bus previously, new registration forms must be submitted annually. Click below to access the registration form.
Eligible Riders
Students will be provided with transportation between their residence and their school if they:
- Reside within the attendance area of the school in which they are enrolled; AND
- Reside within the division boundary; AND
- Reside at a distance greater than 2.4 km from that school.
Non-eligible Riders
Transportation may be offered to students who reside less than 2.4 km from their Designated School if:
- There is sufficient seating on the bus after all Eligible Students have been accommodated;
- It does not significantly impact the ride time of Eligible Students on the route;
- Parents/caregivers agree to pay transportation fees as determined by the Board.
Transportation of Non-Eligible Students may be revoked at any time if space availability becomes an issue, as priority is given to Eligible Students in a designated attendance area.
Parents/caregivers may apply to the Transportation Coordinator if they feel that exceptional circumstances, such as medical conditions or safety concerns, do not fit the criteria noted above. Such requests will be considered on an individual basis.
School of Choice
Transportation may be offered to students attending a school other than their Designated School if:
- There is sufficient seating on the bus after all Eligible and Non-eligible Students have been accommodated;
- It does not significantly impact the ride time of Eligible Students on the route;
- Parents/caregivers arrange to transport the student to a Designated Bus Stop within the school's Attendance Area.
- Parents/caregivers agree to pay transportation fees as determined by the Board.
Transportation of School of Choice Students may be revoked at any time if space availability becomes an issue, as priority is given to Eligible Students in a designated attendance area.
Non-Resident Students
Transportation may be offered to students residing outside the division boundaries if:
- There is sufficient seating on the bus after all Eligible, Non-eligible and School of Choice Students have been accommodated;
- It does not significantly impact the ride time of Eligible Students on the route;
- Parents/caregivers arrange to transport the student to a Designated Bus Stop within the Attendance Area of their school in which the student is enrolled.
- Parents/caregivers agree to pay transportation fees as determined by the Board.
Transportation of Non-Resident Students may be revoked at any time if space availability becomes an issue, as priority is given to Eligible Students in a designated attendance area.
Alternate Transportation Requests
Aspen View Public Schools is now accepting Alternate Transportation Requests (school bus pick-up or drop-off at an approved location other than the student’s primary residence, such as a childcare provider).
Requests for student pick-up/drop-off at a location other than their legal residence may be submitted annually to the Transportation Coordinator for approval. Alternate requests will only be considered if:
- There is sufficient seating on the bus;
- The alternate transportation request does not extend bus routes nor significantly increase students' ride times;
- The alternate transportation request delivers the student to the care of a parent/caregiver or recognized child care provider. Examples include parents' workplaces or babysitters.
- Parents/caregivers pay transportation fees as determined by the Board prior to accessing services.
Alternative Transportation Request Forms must be completed annually.
Alternate Transportation Requests may be revoked at any time if space availability becomes an issue, as priority is given to Eligible Students in a designated attendance area.
Occasional Student Transportation Requests
Occasional Student Transportation Requests will not be available at the start of the school year, until registration of full-time riders is complete (usually late September- mid October).
Private Property/Yard Entry
School buses will generally not enter private property for the purpose of student pick-up or drop-off. Pick-ups and drop-offs will take place at the residential gate immediately adjacent to the municipal road allowance or highway on the school bus route.
Exceptions to normal practice are:
- There is no satisfactory/safe turnaround point on the municipal road allowance; or
- The student is not capable of walking as evidenced by a medical certificate issued by a qualified physician.
If entry to private property is required, contact the Aspen View Public Schools Transportation Coordinator at 780-675-7080 Ext. 16 to request a Consent for Yard Entry Agreement.
