Dave Hague presented with 2024-25 Board of Trustees Bus Driver of the Year Award

At the Aspen View Public Schools Staff Awards & Recognition Night held June 20, 2025, Boyle-area school bus driver Dave Hague was presented with the 2023-24 Aspen View Public Schools Board of Trustees Bus Driver of the Year Award.

The Board of Trustees of Aspen View Public Schools established the Bus Driver of the Year Award in 2018 to celebrate exemplary service and dedication demonstrated by school bus drivers as they carry out the important task of transporting Aspen View students to and from school.

Dave received multiple nominations for the award, including from Boyle School parent and School Council chair Amanda Waye.

“Dave is more than our bus driver, he is our friend, and I am forever grateful for the care and dedication he gives to this profession,” Amanda wrote. “He is the first person my son sees in the morning that he connects with education, and the last person before he gets home. His attitude and behaviour can make or break the day, so he’s always sure to start it with a smile and end it with a caring gesture.

“Dave’s communication goes above and beyond,” she added. “I hear from him every year several weeks before school to get the details, and again right before to confirm. I have texted that man more times than my husband to let him know a last-minute change of plans, and he always responds with a quick reassurance that he’ll make sure my son knows where to go or that he’ll make sure he’s on. He calls me twice a year to give an update on how things on the bus are, and I can reach out to him any time, day or night, with questions or concerns.

“I can honestly say I feel secure knowing my son is safely looked after and cared for in the longest parts of the day.”

Dave thanked his nominators, busing contractor Larry Zayezierski, and the Boyle School staff for being great to work with. “I’d like to thank all the parents on our route,” he added. “I’ve got such a great group of parents. They back us up 100 per cent.

“And the students on my bus, I told those kids just yesterday, if you kids ever want to go to Mexico, make sure you hire me!” he added with a laugh.
